Maria Wilson, MA., LMFT

Welcome ~

First and foremost, welcome to Life Wave Therapy! Having worked through my own struggles, I completely understand what it’s like to sit in vulnerability when speaking to someone in a therapeutic setting. I know the courage it takes to not only reach out for support and ask for help, but to challenge the comfort of denial and face your problems head on. I know the level of trust that it takes in your therapist when you speak of such vulnerable topics, to which I hold at the upmost importance.

I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and open space for you to be able to hear your own voice potentially for the very first time in your life. I truly see you for the person that you are, and not for what you are struggling with.

I have and always will be a California girl at heart, however I currently reside in beautiful Colorado. I took solace in the ocean (hence my practice name) when I was struggling with my own insecurities and found inner peace and confidence in my own thoughts through therapy. Therapy can be such a powerful space to be able to reclaim parts of yourself that maybe have been hidden your entire life. I would love to support you through your own process, and work towards living a life worth living!

Work Experience ~

Before Life Wave Therapy practice was established, I worked at Restore Family Therapy, a group practice focusing on the treatment of eating disorders and other co-occurring mental health disorders. At Restore, I treated both adolescents and adults suffering from a wide range of severity in their eating disorders with medical clearance from their health provider(s). My work at Restore allowed me to pursue my passion working with couples and individuals suffering from relational conflicts. I continue to expand my competence by participating in multiple psycho-educational workshops and lectures focusing on supporting the complexities of communication barriers and past traumas within relationships.

Before working at Restore Family Therapy, I was as a primary therapist at Center For Discovery Residential Treatment Program (RTC), Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for over 4 years. In this role, I provided individual, family and group psychotherapy to both adolescents and adults, as well as providing meal support both at the table and during meal preparation.

During my graduate studies, I worked in a school based system for 2 years at Rosa Parks Elementary, working with children and families using play therapy as the main therapeutic modality. I provided both individual and family psychotherapy, as well as therapeutic support/observation in the classrooms for clients and families in need. Along with my work at Rosa Parks Elementary, I expanded my competence in treating mental health by providing individual psychotherapy to adult individuals and couples suffering from a wide spectrum of mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, personality disorders, and relational conflicts at The Center For Holistic Counseling.
